So the americans have cracked down pretty hard on vaping. Even with some semi-dubious research about Lead poisoning which you might have seen. In the UK, we're pretty cool with it, but the NHS is reluctant to back it---that's understandable given how poor they are and how likely they are to get sued.

    My question is...

Are cigarette companies pushing an anti vaping agenda, or is it genuine concern for public health?

Many US states are in bed with big tobacco, taking a cut of their sales. California and New York, to name but two, issued bonds based on future revenue from tobacco sales.

At the current rate of take-up of vaping, they will both be bankrupt when they have to buy the bonds back so it's essential that people keep smoking.

As you say, PHE is wary of actually encouraging vaping, but they are making the right noises and we are very fortunate in this country.

Corruption by Tobacco and pharmacutical companies as well as the Governments formula which is tax the feck out of tobacco and hope the smokers die before they get to draw a pension. Helps lower the population which saves money in the long run. Knowing how deadly smoking is wouldn't you expect it to be illegal just like hard drugs are, but because tobacco doesn't give a high they pretend it isn't as deadly. Wrong it is still deadly just much slower at killing in most cases, plus people don't go out thieving to feed their Nic habit, but the way things are going with the cost of a box of fags it won't be long till folks are thieving to buy tobacco. Which is what the UK gov have started to realise. At the moment the UK gov are probably looking for a way to top up the money so don't be suprised if weed gets legalised in the next decade, they have to tax something . America are already doing this but they need all the money to build a wall as well as keep everything else ticking over and keep their Super power status.

I do feel sorry for big tobacco, you make a product for a couple of quid but then a government puts a 800% tax on it to price it out of contention, then a cleaner healthier way of supressing nicotine addiction comes along.
They should have a word with Betamax,VHS et al...

The FDA is getting ready to virtually ban vaping.
They say it's all about the children and shut down all debate.
To be fair, some under age vaping occurs.
Just like alcohol, but they can't shut that down without a revolution.
Just like cigs, but the taxes are too important.

Meanwhile, the schools are battling opioids and drugs.
Just like the rest of the country with little success.
    .

Strangely, the states most opposed to tobacco are the most pro weed and give it very favorable tax treatment. No concern raised in the press about children engaging in that past time. The FDA does nothing to regulate weed because it is still technically illegal at the federal level.Doubt they would anyway.
