The electronics are held underneath the head piece. These rely upon soldered connections (you could do it without though) and therefore need a fixed positive.
But I'm assuming the + pole is attached to the electronic via a wire?.n?..surely there would be enough flexibility to allow for a few turns on a screw in that type of connection?

Theoretically yes, no problem. But how would you warranty that? I don't think I would.
You could make a kind of floating connector but that might also cause problems with the amps going through it.
