just got one today from shmovapes
gone thru 2 batts already....

Likes the size, build quality, finish and engraving
don't like the sharp edge on the middle tube section (I can buff that out)
the thin spring on the switch....can see that being a weak spot and the "floating" 510 pin.
which means floating delrin insulator.
Apart from that it bloody lovely even with these foibles.
Question is does anyone know of a magnet set for the switch or am I going to have to make one ?

If you give me a few minutes I'll just go try something out and let you know about magnets.

Damn.

The Hammer magnets fit in the recess but need a larger ID in order for the switch to work with a thin Nem magnet.

Sorry.

no worries, if I get a set of nem magnets can I machine them down ?
I have access to lathe and surface grinder, also, if anyone else would like these I could machine a batch ?

Good luck with that one.

NdFeB is brittle as fuck. You manage it, I'm in, but I think you need one Hammer magnet to bore out. Let me know if you want one and I'll pop it in the post.

May be able to cylindrical grind the magnets....
So can a set of nem magnets be machined or do I need a hammer magnet and a nem magnet,,,,,cant be arsed to measure at the mo...drawing on your knowledge !

I would suggest that seeing as the OD of the Hammer magnet fits it might make more sense to just attack the ID, but I'm far from a specialist in this. I just know the problems we had in a clean room with disintegrating NdFeB contaminating everything.

OK hammer magnets as a base then will order some in the morning and keep you updated !

You won't find them in the UK, I don't think.

PM me your addy and I'll get a Hammer and a Nem magnet in the post ;)

...and when I say I'll get them in the post it may take me a couple of days.

Well, after further research machining these magnets is probably a no go, would need a diamond burr, coolant mist to keep the temp. down
and even then I might destroy the magnetic properties.......They are moulded to shape apparently ! Will need to think on it further....
