Maybe you have a naturally low pH, and your more sensitive than most to the higher pH of freebase.

Well I've tried nic salts and it's like I've found vaping for the first time! Even though I'm only on 3mg I've found I'm vaping alot less and there is little to no irritation on the throat. 3 toots and I'm good, where as before I could vape for 30 mins plus after I'd gotten over the coughing!
