I'm in the planning stage of a project for a single 18650 squonker.
Plan is for 1 piece (plus door) milled from a solid piece of unstabilised rippled sycamore left over from a guitar.

First concern is the thickness of the walls needed, would 5mm be enough?

Anyone had any experience using unstabilised wood?

I asked my neighbour, a wood carver/ furniture maker.
He says rippled sycamore or fiddle back sycamore is one of the most stable of woods.
He thought 5mm was plenty.

yes me

is it a solid block you intend to mill?
Yes, hoping to mill the box out of a solid board (similar to std 3d printed box) but the tolerances will be tight once dimensioned.
I have a plan B to mill a frame and add panels to the sides and cover the top/bottom with buffalo horn.

Thanks, I'm hoping so because I'm using some of it as a 3ply guitar neck.

I shall crack on then, hoping to finish it by Christmas...not saying which Christmas :)

Sycamore should be great buddy and five ml on rippled should be perfect as old hippy said. I've routed out a few guitars in it. Make sure you have a decent cutting tool. Makes all the difference.
Look forward to it.
