We’ve got a double feature for you today as we take a look at two new additions to Vaporesso’s already superb line-up. We are big fans of the XROS ecosystem here at Potv, so we were genuinely excited to see what the latest version was going to bring, and we got to find out when they sent over the XROS 4 and the XROS 4 Mini.

Unboxing and Specs

The XROS 4 and the XROS 4 Mini look very similar when it comes to the outer packaging, both coming in the classic green and black boxes. The Xros comes in a slip case and the box is larger to accommodate the extra bits you get with the big boy kit, the XROS 4 Mini is a regular box design and is more compact. Opening up the two packages, you’ll find your device with a preinstalled pod held securely in a blown plastic tray. The Mini just comes with a plain black USB-C cable, but the regular 4 also includes a second pod and a fancy braided USB-C cable. I really like these cables; they are hard wearing and are a more usable length.

The XROS 4 has two versions. You can pick either the 0.6ohm and 0.8ohm pod kit or the 0.4ohm and 0.8ohm kit so you can choose the one which is going to suit your personal vape style. The XROS Mini only comes with a o.4ohm coil, but both kits are compatible with any of the XROS pods so you can mix and match when it comes to buying supplies. For this review, we were sent the worldwide release version so the pods are all 3ml, but if you are buying in the UK, you will be restricted to the 2ml TPD compliant pods.

First Impressions

Now we’ve got the basics out of the way, it is time to dive in and take a more detailed look at the two kits.

The XROS 4 comes in ten different colours, and I was sent the Lilac Purple and the Neon Sunset. From the illustration on the Vaporesso website, you can see that the Neon Sunset is a two colour fade, but what isn’t so clear is that the Lilac Purple is also two colours that merge. Both look great with a high quality finish which should prove pretty hardwearing. Other than the obvious size difference, the other big thing is that the 4 has a screen. It is smart looking but is also simple and clear, showing which mode is set, lock status, and a visual representation of remaining battery levels using the regular green (70-100%), blue (30%-70%) , red (0%-30%). You can get all the information at a glance, but I know the vague battery feedback may be annoying for some people.

The XROS 4 also has a button, which the Mini doesn’t. It is multifunctional, you can use it as a fire button if you don’t like to rely on auto-draw, and it also allows you to lock the fire button which is always handy if you carry your kit in a pocket. It also lets you change between the three modes, which Vaporesso call “strong”, “stronger”, and “strongest”. You can see which mode you are using as the light uses different colours depending on which one you are in. It is easy to switch between them too, just hit the fire button three times until the little fire symbols start to flash, and then subsequent presses scroll through the three options. It is worth playing around with these as e-liquid can change at different heat levels. The middle setting is a good happy medium though.

The charging port is on the side here which means you can leave your kit standing upright when you have it plugged in, and the airflow selector is on the opposite side to the screen. This is a basic slider with two holes that can be covered to suit. I tend to keep it open as it keeps the vape cooler, but if you want a tighter, true mouth to lung draw, you can close it right down and it becomes a proper cheek puller.

The XROS 4 Mini is, as you can guess from the name, smaller. The main girth is similar to its big brother, but it is considerably shorter so will be much better if you want to keep it in your jeans pocket. It also comes in ten colour variants, but they are different to the options on the 4. There are three camo prints and the rest are single colours. I was sent the Space Grey which matches my laptop and phone nicely. It has a slight colour fade from top to bottom and has an optical illusion swirl pattern on the front panel. It looks very smart for a little mod.

There is no button this time round, and it isn’t needed as there is nothing that is user customisable apart from the airflow which is the same as the one used on the XROS 4. There is just a small battery indicator light which shows the green, blue, and red to highlight your battery status.

The charging port is located on the bottom this time, so you will need to lay the Mini down when plugged in. It is a small price to pay for such a tidy, lightweight kit.

Both kits are made from an all-aluminium alloy which has been specially treated for extra strength and durability. I keep my vape gear in a pocket when I’m out and about and it doesn’t take long to pick up a few scratches and dings, but both kits still look like they are new apart from some fingerprint smudges on the screen on the big boy. All the edges are nicely rounded so they feel good when you are vaping.

Branding is kept to a minimum with Vaporesso etched on the front and the logo on the back. Safety warnings are discreetly printed on the base which is a nice touch as it keeps everything streamlined.

The Pods

Both kits use the same XROS pods which are magnetically fitted and stay put securely. They are top fill, simply pop off the mouthpiece to reveal the fill port and squeeze your e-liquid straight in. It is completely mess free. Randomly one of my pods didn’t like me popping the top off though and made some scary cracking noises. I’ve never had anything like this before though, and I’ve been using Vaporesso pods for a long time now, so I think I was just a very unlucky. Thankfully it was just noises, and the integrity of the pod was not compromised, it just sounded painful.

I absolutely adore the Vaporesso XROS coils, the flavour is just insanely good, and they last a really long time even when using super sweetened juices. You always get massive flavour which is also refined and detailed, making them perfect if you like more complex flavours. Add in their proprietary Corex leak free technology, and you pretty much have the perfect pod. There are also enough options so no matter whether you like salts, shortfills, or disposable style e-liquids, there is a coil perfect for the job.

XROS 4 vs XROS 4 Mini

Now we have looked at both new kits, which one should you choose? Well, I think anyone would be happy with as they are both great kits, especially for the price as these are both aimed at the more wallet friendly market. If you want to be able to change some basic settings and like to be able to check the status of your device, then the XROS 4 will be a better fit. Normally that would be my choice too, but the XROS 4 Mini just works so well, and because it doesn’t need to power a screen, you get better battery life. It is an incredibly efficient kit, and I was getting considerably longer vape time from a single charge. It will be down to your personal preferences though as they are both very good, and I enjoyed using both kits.
